Milltek res & non res exhausts

As per thread title, I'm possibly looking at getting a cat back system for my (new to me) FN2, don't want silly loud or drony on the m/way and definitely don't want raspy exhausts either!

Watched a few videos on YouTube of folks with the non res milltek and can't really make my mind up about it to be fair, but I've read a few comments on here where it's been said that the non res CAN be drony on the m/way and it is actually pretty loud too!, there are a couple of the resonated milltek systems for sale on eBay atm, so I'm wondering if any of you have gone for the resonated version, and what you think to them in terms of how they sound!?

I do want a bit more sound than what the standard system gives, but not A LOT more - will the resonated version be about right??

I have the non-res and before I had the cat-less exhaust manifold it was quite manageable. There was a little drone on the motorway but nothing intrusive. I live in Sheffield so I'd offer you a run out but I don't think it will help given that I have the manifold now. Let me know if you're curious though ;)

I'd also comment that you might be looking at the wrong brand if you don't want a raspy sound as the Milltek does that pretty well. It is a bit of a screamer.

It's deceptive then because the videos just make it sound deeper, more of a boom than a rasp if you get me!

Yes, it is very difficult to judge from video footage. I have quite a bit of footage of mine at various stages of modding and you can barely tell the difference (from the inside) despite there being quite the difference.

I got milltek non res, and i choose it because it's raspy :)
It sounds like a rally car, but just quieter (martelius sounds like a rally car and same loud).

Out of all videos on YT this one is in my opinion closest to the real sound.

I think if you like deep noise you should check tegiwa - it should be less raspy and more deep than milltek, but i base my opinion on videos as well, so real life could be different. If you don't like raspy don't go milltek. Milltek is most beautifull exhaust note on hot hatch you can imiagine - raspy but not too much, doesn't sound cheap and chavy. Maybe not on above video, but in real life i would compare that to noise of stock supercar.:)

Hmm interesting!

I'm warming more to the non res miltek!

Need to have a listen to some more clips!

Elaborating more on sound - this is what i wrote in other thread:

The best noise it makes on a cold start - raspy rally car type noise
When hot it gets a bit quieter but, i would still call it a bit raspy. This is in my opinion signature mark of milltek - all of their exhaust i hear was a raspy note and i love that. Not boomy, although on low revs it sound little bit boomy on neutral / stable throttle but when you accelerate it gets lovely raspy
Milltek is very well design exhaust that will give you lot of fun when driving in the town, witrh low revs (where intake is quiet) thanks to that even normal, slow driving is fun ( on standard exhaust is just boring).
When revving high on other hand is still loud, but not stupid loud.
I just fitted HKS RSK and i'm upset as intake is noisier when on vtec than exhaust... i love the Milltek that much
Oh - and motorways are ok with it - around 4k revs, stable throttle and it's sound like a sports car, but it doesn't annoy you.

One thing has to be said - when you fit this after standard it will surprise you how loud it is... after time you will get used to it and it becomes normal, but first day will be like "What the f*** they were saying on the forum?! quiet!!??" :D:p

It's not quiet exhaust, it will turn heads in town, but it won't make you feel tired.

Interesting!

How much would you want for it out of interest, have the tailpipes been cut back too? (Seem to recall the hks pipes protruded as standard) and I prefer NOT to see them!

Will have to see if there are any vids about for that system to get an idea of what it's really like!

What's it like on the m/way cruising, and how much louder than standard? ( almost nothing, or enough that you know it's there)??

Any of you guys got (or had) either the BCS or Blueflame system for your FN2's?

I quite like the way that sounds on clips I've heard, but am wondering how loud it is in the car/ at cruise?

Might have possibly found a site still selling them so this is another avenue i'm considering as it has just the right tone (for me)

Ughhh, just found a vid of an FN2 with the blue flame system, and ok it's not the best quality, and it doesn't say if there are any other mods done to the car, but if that's how the standard system sounds in car then it's bloody loud!!:holyshit:

A bit late in coming and I just scanned most of this... tbh I don't think the non-res milltek drones at all. The resonated milltek doesn't really sound much different to a stock exhaust, something like the Tegiwa or HKS maybe sounds the one for you?

Was reading through some old threads yesterday and came across one where (I think it ABP who said it), that the HKS system isn't full stainless, can any of you guys confirm that or know what they mean, or is it wrong?

If milltek is not good (btw - you will hear one in real life and regret you didn't get one ;)) Then why not tegiwa?:

Inside:
Tegiwa 2.5" FN2 exhaust - YouTube

Outside / inside:
FN2 ctr tegiwa cat back stainless exhaust - YouTube
That's ironic!

Just finished browsing the whole thread about this and watching that 1st video back to back twice and I do like that and it does read like it's pretty good in terms of little drone etc, Think I may have a new favorite with this tbh! - seems like just the right balance!

Bugger it - order placed![smilie=upyeah.gif]

It's taken a while - listening to loads of different clips and getting differing opinions to tie it down to the Tegiwa system. I have a mate with an ep3 who has one of there systems on and ok they won't sound the same as the pipe runs will differ etc, but I liked the sound of his car when I heard it (also has there induction kit in too iirc), kinda loud'ish, but not silly loud, nice burble at idle and mental in vtec, but not overly raspy iirc. I'm expecting this system to be similar (possibly a tad quieter by the sounds of it), and I too am considering a tegiwa air box so I wouldn't be at all surprised if our cars sound very similar when done!

Want a system/setup that retains some civility and isn't a "wake the neighbours" type every time you fire it up, but also has a nice bark when you want it, but little drone when you just want to cruise, hopefully this system will pretty much tick those boxes!

Where about in chezzie?, saw a NHB FN2 come past my house coming from wingerworth that was roaring away with the familiar sound of an aftermarket system on! Sounded pretty loud too from what I remember!

Could that have been you!?, if not then there's someone else possibly knocking "round town" with a modded R!

Just fitted my Tegiwa catback system and taken her out for a run too see what's what, and i have to say so far i'm loving it!

Has just the right tone, doesn't overly drone on the bypass m/way at 70mph (there is some noise obviously, but it's certainly liveable withable), You can barely tell it's there at idle, but once you open the taps up it adds a nice rasp free tone and it never gets silly loud either!

All in all i'm really glad I opted for this system, it's given the car just the right tone imo and it's kind of there when you want it, but never too intrusive!

Added bonus - just rang Chris Knott to tell them I wanted to add a cat back stainless steel exhaust system to my policy, and No charge - which was nice!

happy days indeed!:D
