Poor handling in the wet, ideas?

Moving this from another thread.

Basically getting lots of understeer in the wet and back skips out a little in the dry, this my current set up:
Fn2, Syron tires with good tread all round, eibach lowering springs, no frs.

Just wanting people opinions on what will make the most positive difference to the above stated issues.

Previous car was the 2.2 with eibach coilovers, frs and conti sport contact 3's, miles better grip but was hard to eliminate the understeer in the wet due to heavy engine I guess.

+1 get the geo checked adjusted....check for worn bushes/topmounts/subframe/shocks and such.

Wet weather likes lots of gentle suspension/steering movement and good tyres.
You can be rougher and the suspension/steering more jolty in the dry as you have more grip.
So it could be sudden jolts/movement from excessive play or driver input or dodgy shocks that could make the tyres brake away too..if its not a tyre grip issue.

Thanks all, FRS was definitely next on the list anyway. Will get back to people on which exact tire and pressures.

Relic I believe you went out in my 2.2 when it had the coilovers put on at TDI south

I did indeed matey ;)
It held the road far longer than mine would before letting go.
To be frank the only way to test the limit would be to risk death and a write off.
Would have been nice to see how they held up on track.
Most of the power understeer appeared eliminated on them from what I remember.
You could brake on ripples approaching a bend and still have control of the car too lol

I've got Syron race 1's on my derv & found them to be terrible in the wet, but then jacked my car up the other day & found really uneven tyre wear so I've booked in with abp for FRS on Tuesday, so I'm hoping this will offer some improvement.

Mark (Hagan) was saying the same. But seeing as he never drives anywhere he's godda put up with them for years yet :lol:

Yeh it was frightening with contact 3's on all round in the dry, had a mate scoff at me for talking about how good it was, took him out, he ate his own hat.
The car is in the for sale section now! :eek:

It might be worth me just putting up with the understeer in the wet and driving a little more calmly at least I get great grip in the dry once frs is done and tires aren't robbing me every time? Thoughts?

Never said you were wrong. That's probably what will happen, then it will just be a case of judging which tires will be best value for money, obviously don't want to be spending £140 a tire but don't want to compromise grip. Hopefully find some good tire choice threads on here as its obviously different for different cars.

100% tyre choice is critical I got left by a type s1.8 and I was in my fn2 at the time running 222.3 bhp and Iknew iI was a better driver so it wasn't that I had shanner tyres on the car at the time put some Dunlop sp sports on and made.the car a different animal altogether

Triangles all round same as them sunny tyres terrifying to be quite honest in the wet
I was on a civinfo run years ago to Glencoe when it happened :)

Well looks like that's the plan then, wear these tires out get good rubber and FRS, will be over to ABP as they are closest probably. Seen that a LSD isn't as expensive as I thought either :p
