Just wanted to check who has bought car breakdown cover and if its worth buying? I've never bought it before and not sure if I should consider it.

I have it, and it came in handy on two occasions with the old car, always good for peace of mind for the sake of £25ish a year i guess.

It's with the AA, think it's called Honda Assistance. Had them out twice on my old EP3 when one of the wheelnuts broke and another time when the battery died. Came out both times for free.

If your car is over the three yr period i'd only consider it if you do a lot of mileage. If you only do short journeys round town etc. then i'd wouldn't bother.

You really need to have it. Especially if you travel on motorways. If you break down on a motorway and dont have breakdown cover, it can be very very expensive to be recovered

Yeah think i have it for free with my car, but i also pay with the aa (well my parents do) for the sake of £25per annum its not worth cancelling, so im double insured ;)

I would say that there is no point buying it unless you have an older car that is likely to break down. As people have said above, Hondas are covered by Honda for the first three years anyway. After that, if you did break down then it'll be cheaper to pay the call out charge than pay every year (unless you break down very often - unlikely for a newish car). Your insurance company will cover the cost for recovery and so on and possibly even for roadside assistance, so if you pay the AA/RAC for that as well then you're paying twice, which is pointless.

We have this as we can do a lot of motorway miles a year, we have no spare wheel so if we had a blow out then we are glad we have the cover. The other reason we have this the 1st year of owning the Auris we got club Toyota free and for £55 per year this is a very very good package, We get everything including hotel costs covered and towed all the way home so IMO well worth £55.

My third year of free cover finishes this March but I've just had a card from Honda saying that if I book a service on or before 31st March I get a free year's breakdown cover. Sounds like a good deal for me as I am with Honda Happiness so apart from the MOT and parts no extra to pay!

Some insurance companies are starting to give this away for free to new customers. And most banks also give it away too.

I used to work for the AA, so I know how much it costs to get a garage to recover your car. i.e a small fortune.

Basic cover will pay for itself if you have a breakdown once every 3 years or thereabouts (even just needing a wheel change), and that's if you grind to a halt fairly close to home. Break down a long way from home and you're looking at serious cash to get the car taken home.

You get free cover with Honda for 3 years and some insurance companies will cover you as well, usually for less than getting cover seperatly.

Nobody thinks they need breakdown cover until they break down! At that point you'll be glad you've got an AA or RAC membership.

I've still got the Honda cover (car under 3 years old) - but, I am also 100% covered by my Insurer, even when "out of country" - so, whether breakdown or accident, I'll always get my car recovered ...

I have something called here "Superforsikring" (literally, 'Super Insurance') that gives new for old for house contents, rebuilding of house if it burnt down (irrespective of cost), car recovery anywhere in Europe, and personal travel cover (medical bills, repatriation, etc.) ...

I does cost a bit more than the 'standard' package (about 20% more as I recall) but it does give peace of mind ! ...

Oh, and I always carry one 'empty' (unused) credit card at all times - just in case ...

"Oh, and I always carry one 'empty' (unused) credit card at all times - just in case ... " makes sense :) !
Yeeppp - I actually have 3 different credit cards (used as 'payment buffers' - I pay the full amount every month) - but, one is always unused "just in case of emergencies" ...

Paranoia RULES !!! ...

i have it regardless.....got it on my new car for the next 27 months free with honda then back to the aa for me.....peice of mind and i have kids so if i was to break down for what ever reason i know they won't be sat in the cold for a long period. you just never know

Here we have free Honda Assistance as long as your car is serviced by a Honda dealer.
My insurance company also offered me free assistance as part of the deal, so I've one to spare. Anyone? :)

When I picked my car up I mentioned about no spare wheel and the dealer said don't worry for the first 3 years as Honda assist will come to your rescue even for a puncture so no need to bother joining any group untill the car is 3 years old, also used this on my vauxhall as they do the same as most dealers do, I know a lot of peeps get this through bank accounts and insurance free well then fair enough, but you must be mad to actully pay for breakdown cover within the fist 3 years of a cars life.

breakdown cover

There is nothing wrong in buying a breakdown cover. yes, it ask money and little bit of hard work in submitting all documents. i am associated with http://www.covermybreakdown.co.uk
gone through its services and found it better. But, it depends on your requirements.
Breakdown is always beneficial if taken the right one. So its necessary to opt for the correct insurance.
