Hello i know ive posted quite a few times and every time said im a mong and dont really have a clue about my car but im trying to make it a little better. I love my music and have noticed that quite a few people have agreed that the honda stereo. I was going to put a sub in but ive looked in to it and dont want to have to go cutting the wires and loosing the sound to my back speakers. So if any one could advise me on a good way to improve my stereo like better speakers and what speakers are already in the civic type r 2007. Im not actually sure if this makes much sence but hopefully you get the idea. I dont want to go to somewhere like halfords because they have less of a clue than i do.
thanks.

You just need a LOC to install a sub. They're extremely cheap. If you want good music quality replace the HU with a decent double din and install a sub. I was sat in wellhouse's Type S today and his setup is incredible. He's got an amazing setup and all he's replaced is the headunit, added two subs and an amp.

You can install a small in-dash Amplifier (like the KT-445 ?) that fits between the existing HU and the cabling to the speakers ...

Then, you need upgraded speakers, that fit the existing holes ...

There are a few threads in here about this ...

i must be getting old, cos i dont find the cd/radio that bad, the sound quailty is no where near as good as the system that was in the accord or the S60 but i think with a change of speakers at the most this could produce better quality playback :)

Adding a sub adds some low end. And changing the stock speakers improves the sound quite a bit indeed. And finally adding an in dash amp would complete the job. I would do my upgrades in that order. In fact I did, except I'm still thinking whether or not adding the in dash amp. (I'm getting a little deaf as it is, due to playing my guitar to loud.)
I would not replace the original HU since its output (over an extra amp) is not that bad. A double DIN is just to much ÂŁÂŁÂŁ for what it adds IMHO.
BTW there are some active subwoofers that you can just connect to the existing speaker wires: just "tap" the signal from the rear speaker wire(s), somewhere on its path. You only need to route one wire (+12V) to the battery. You don't even have to worry about a remote cable, since these things "detect" an audio signal on their input and switch themselves on. Like this one for example...

I added a 12" Kicker sub in the boot with a 300 watt Kicker amp, Kicker components in the door, and Kicker coaxials in the back. I have the original HU with a LOC and the difference is amazing. Really transforms the sound 1000%! Bought everything (except LOC which I got locally) through www.audiosavings.com for real cheap.
