Here's the skinny:
You need:
1 cruise control steering wheel - ideally with info and reset buttons for the display - £35 on ebay.
2 the sqib (steering wheel to car clockspring connector that sits under the steering wheel) with the extra row of pins - £10 on ebay.
3 3 lengths of wire about 2 feet long ideally light green, yellow and grey - robbed form an old landrover loom so £0
4 3 connectors for the tachometer end to go on the end of the 3 wires above -I removed them from the connector that came with the squib so £0
Installing:
Drop down the panel below the dash
Remove the steering column cowlings - both of them.
Remove the dash cover.
Remove the tachometer cluster.
Remove the steering wheel.
Remove the squib (you may have to undo the switch stalks to get access to the clips.When removed, re install the stalks.)
Fit the 3 connectors, one to each wire.
On the tachometer cluster connector carefully lift the black locking bar on the connector and install the wires as follows:
Light green on pin 9.
Grey on pin 10
Yellow on pin 11.
Make sure the connectors are pushed firmly home - they can be quite tight
Loop the wires back through the dash and to the column.
At the column end, peel back the squib wiring loom to reveal the wires
Locate the light green wire at pin 16 of the squib wiring loom. Cut it and join the light green wire you just installed to pin 9 of the tacho cluster.
Locate the yellow wire at pin 15 of the squib wiring loom. Cut it and join the yellow wire you just installed to pin 11 of the tacho cluster.
Locate the grey wire at pin 14 of the squib wiring loom. Cut it and join the grey wire you just installed to pin 10 of the tacho cluster.
Fit the new squib.
Fit the new steering wheel.
Refit the tacho cluster.
Reassemble the rest of the dash.
You should now have cruise control.
