Those water marks are usually the result of using wash and wax solutions and allowing it to dry before leathering off.

I know I will get slated, but my solution has always been to use one of those kitchen sponge & scourer pads and use the scourer side with some fairy liquid and use with circular motion to gently lift off the surface wax and get down to the glass.

Plan B is to use vinegar (to go with the chips on the bonnet) which should also cut through the wax layer.

ps: only use the scourer very lightly and ensure it's glass and not plastic.

I use my orbital polisher and a good application of Autoglym Glass polish :) Mine come up just fine (and my area's water is about as hard as you get..... My car is always covered in water marks after I've washed it).

I read of two things that might work (both reports were positive).

i) Colgate Shaving Cream with aloe. Let it sit on the glass for 30 mins and you should find it crystal clear when you wash off the residue. This was found to work after someones watermarked windows were sprayed with the stuff 'JUST MARRIED'. He noticed the cleaned glass area after washing it off and decided to do all the windows.

ii) Ceramic Hob Cleaner. Works a treat (so I read).

.......but my own preference is:

PermaClearUK Ltd - Glass cleaners - PVCu - Ceramic - Car windscreen protection - Polymer coating

I have always found their Pro Clean and Stay Clean (similar to RainX) to be excellent both on the car and around the home (you should watch the rain bead and run off the house windows when it's tipping it down).

I keep meaning to try their Cleaning Wipes on the interior glass.

Can you use these things on your windscreen, as I'm thinking I might use it on mine to help keep it clear, and while we are on glass, has anyone had a graduated sunstrip tint added to their windscreen (like you get on the BMW's etc.) so that you don't have so many problems with 'glare' (I used to have a factory fitted one on my BMW and I miss it). Or do we already have one that I've missed????

I was told to use that flash car wash system to remove the hard water effect, but it seems to have gone off the market. Do any cxar washes/shampoo's etc. soften the water???

I had one of those Flash systems for a short while before I tossed it as useless. Better than rinsing with plain water but only just, still got spots on te car if left too long.

Those water spots occur because the hard water is drying too quick under the wash & wax solution that makes them a bu**er to remove.

I find it no real hardship as I polish/wax/wax/wax/wax  my car every time I wash it and so get no spots to speak of.
