From the official Honda Maintenance Manual it states that the engine oil you can stick into your car varies from 0W-20 all the way to 10W-40 this is dependant on the expected temperature range you can expect your car to encounter. Obviously the oil ratings are to do with its viscocity at different temperatures.

See the chart below for more details. You should be fine though. You may find that your burn more oil in hotter climates though.

So for typical UK its 10-30 or 10-40 (down to -20C, and it rarely, if ever gets that cold here).

However my 10G book says 0-20 for European models, so I suspect it's "how long is a piece of string" and I'm coming to the conclusion that 0-20 or 0-30 or 10-30 etc. it really matters not a lot as long as it's not an el-cheapo recycled supply.

Just make sure you use something branded, I tend to Use Castrol Edge, Honda Recommend the Shell V-Power Engine oil, other big brands like Motul etc will also be fine. Providing you're within the range of values set by the Honda Chart, you can't really go wrong!

 

As mentioned above, the oil viscosity chart in the 8G handbook shows that either 0W-20 or 0W-30 is acceptable.

I have also recently spotted this oil recommendation chart from Honda on Cox's website though, which shows that the current advice for the 8G petrol (non-R) is 0W-20 if I am reading it correctly.

My car is currently filled with 0W-30 and I am considering chaning to 0W-20 at the next oil change mostly for extra fuel efficiency, but it may not be worth it as 0W-20 is a lot more expensive!

 

Honda when I went to purchase oil said 0w-20 for Type R.

0w30 was the recommendation from Honda but they have lowered it to 0w20 in recent years to help with economy. Always had 0w30 in mine and its runs great and don't use a spot between changes.

 

I always use Castrol edge 0W30 as recommended but have been told 5W30 is also suitable as it doesn't get that cold here.
