if is that so, why the i-vtec from r18 is called "eco-vtec" ('cause the short cam is for economy and the big one is "normal")? on r20 they say the short cam is "normal" and the second is for performance.
i-DSi did you have a link to see the dimensins of those cams?

The i-Vtec on the R20 is a 100% copy and identical to the one on the R18.
The eco-mode has got not much to do with short or long lobes. It's the delay in closing that makes it economical, allthough it's done by the shortest lobe (you don't need high lift in eco-mode). You can call the normal, heighest camlobe the performance one on both engines.

as i sed , some more technical details : Civic 1.8L iVTEC chart - Page 2 - 8th Generation Honda Civic Forum
no similarity between those two systems
Well, I will post it for the last time in this thread:
The R18 and R20 engines are COPIES ! They both use the same type of camshaft, with even the same lobeheight (except for one of 3 intake lobes that opens a pathetic 0,1mm more... 2 exhausts are also the same height). And the R20 should not have 'hotter' and 'wilder' timing, as it has less BHP per liter and a longer stroke with a bit less high revs. But I have no data on the timing.
Is this clear enough?
"Honda, the power of dreams".... seems a lot of guys keep on dreaming over here.
Sorry for destroying the Honda dreams. But get realistic and don't believe the hype.

Perhaps an attempt to do the modification could answer all our questions
;)

yes pasm when are you going to finish the project i think 5 of us are going to help you.when do you whant me to send you ta fragka?
We will see my friend.
Let's see the cost and delivery time for the R20 camshaft.
Also I had a suggestion for modifying our engine to 2000cc but i think that the cost is too high.

how does a camshafts give 30bhp on a eco vtec style engine? im no expert so im not saying anyone is wrong i just dont understand how it could improve our type of engine setup

The differences are minor between the camshafts.

And that means it won't fit ? - or will fit, but give neglible or no gains ? ...

I think that will fir but gain will be neglible.

I was thinking about it but finally I decided to install a turbo.

anyone tried the skunk2 tuner stage2 R18A based cam, on a R18A2? i mean that technical it should be 100% fitting and working, right?
