I received my HDS cable today and loaded the driver onto my netbook so i should have everything i need now.

Edit

It wasn't going well to start with but after reading Sasqurtch's post on how he installed it and many tries installing/rebooting the software i was successful in getting it to communicate with the car. The battery in my tiny netbook isn't the greatest so i only had a bit of time this evening to run a health check and look at the DPF info.

This is what i got for the DPF data

Hi all,

** PLEASE HELP! ***

I've purchased the cable and tried to get HDS to comminicate with the car but was never successful.

Now the car won't start. I've got power to the radio and navigation etc but why I try to crank the engine - it just tries and stops.

Have I blown the ECU/damaged the computer?

Please help!!

This looks fine to me

I just have an occasional look and check that it isn't too long since a successful regen and the PM value is less than say 20g. Obviously these figures will be influenced by driving style.

Don't worry also if you travel a lot without an active regen, if you do a lot of highway I could confirm calculated PM will not accumulate or even goes down.
Latest trip, after 200 km of highway at 130 km/h speed particulate goes down from 9.6 to 7.2 grams. Images below. NO active regen.
Then I used the car for 200km of 5-10kms short trips and particulate goes up to 9 grams again.
Return highway trip and particulate goes down again at 8 grams. (now is 2400 from last active regen, third image).
Now I check particulate often and could confirm that a cold start and the first few kms will build up few decimal point of grams of particulate, then with a warm DPF and moderate speed particulate stop increasing and if you make an highway travel could even goes down.

Managed to get this to work today thanks to @sasquartch

In case anyone else is a bit of a noob like me, few pointers

  1. Connect Cable
  2. Turn on Ignition
  3. StartHDS
  4. Select New Vehicle
  5. Once connected...can start the car to not drain the battery.

Whe you are planning to do heavy work on the ECU is recommended to connect the battery to a battery charger, or do it with engine on...

I could confirm that 25-26 grams will trigger DPF light with exclamation mark. And for sure under 10 grams car will not require regeneration.
I want to advice also that making long steep climbs, like a mountain pass will be equal if not better of a long highway run for cleaning DPF. In these uphill roads fuel consumption will go 2 or 3 times an highway run, (10-15 liters/100km), this heavy load of engine will warm the DPF very well, avoiding any further accumulation of soot and in some cases lowering existing soot. If you have a clogged DPF you can also try a long mountain steep climb to try to clean it before forcing a regen. After a very steep 20 minutes road I get a 0.1 differential pressure from a previous 0.5 and 2 grams less of particulate.

Notice also that HDS before starting a forced regen will estimate a particulate value from differential pressure, this particulate mass differ from the other indicated in "data list" panel. In my case 13.5 grams "estimated from differential pressure" and 8.1 grams in data list panel. Estimated value in last ten checks did not change, I think this is based on the max differential pressure ever registered from latest regen, then if pressure drops for passive regen this wil not follow remaining the max historical value.

Note the 3600 kms after latest active regen, all highway and mountain roads (1.6 Dtec)
Bear in mind that there is no a maximum travel distance after which an active regeneration is required.
Using my car only for long highway runs or mountains climbs my PM will float between 7 and 10 grams all the past 3600 kms, without needing an active regeneration.
Last year I have a DPF warning light after only 200 kms of short city trips. Each cold start will accumulate few decimal points of soot (0.2/0.3 grams), if the DPF will warm up well this soot will be eliminated itself, if not, like in a short city trip, will remain in filter.
I think that first grams of DPF soot can't be eliminated without an active regen, but latest accumulation, after 7-8 grams and before 10-12 grams, will clean itself if warmed up properly.
If you see how a DPF filter works this is plausible, first particles are trapped inside the small little holes, then start to grow on flat sides layers, this layers of soot could be cleaned with lower temperatures.

Guys,
It might be a long shot but I'm wondering if any of you still got a copy of HDS 3.XXX.XXX software. I've purchased xhorse cable but it came with HDS 2.018.013 and it seems my 2016 Civic isn't supported as only vehicles up to 2010 are listed on HDS.
Your help would much appreciated.
