Sorry to hear of the damage. My guess would be that it was hit by something on the way there, maybe a stone or something. Maybe even a bird?!

Seems unlikely that a fog lamp lens would be damaged in a bump whilt the car was parked, and it is an unlikely target for vandalism.

You mentioned that the lamp was loose. It's not impossible that it vibrated at tjust the right (or wrong) frequency on the motorway and cracked itself.

How much for replacement?

 

Looks as if a stone has hit on the lower corner and if the fog was a little loose then this coupled with a hole caused by a stone could feasbly cause the other cracks.

I once had similar damage caused by a stone on a headlamp.

 

Heat?

 

It's a fascinating break. The cracks run the non-obvious way along the length, as if the force came from deforming the upper and lower parts of the lights (not the left and right). I'm going to guess a poorly fitted lens (so pre-stressed) with a rapid temperature change or a kick as the final straw.

I've not had a fog light in my hand - could anyone see if it's possible to get the lens on a bit wrong?

You say " I doubt it happened on the way there". Which means you can't say for sure that it did'nt happen on the way down. If it was loose, it could have been vibration. Or stone. Or BUTTERFLY STRIKE !!!!! :wink:

Prob's could of been a small stone that hit it while your on your way down to Heatrow or somthing, Or like the other member said, could of been the temperture changing coursing it to crack?:S

I have had it looked at and it has been put down to a stone chip, along with the chips on the front wing, which my companies accident management people are dealing with (apparantly any bodywork damage is handled by accident management peeps), so as soon as the fog lanp is delivered to AutoRestore they are bringing their mobile paint booth to my house and the fog lamp is replaced and the wing resprayed.

 

:?: Hi Guys new to this forum BUT same problem. Both Front Fog Lamps on the wifes car are the same as your ,Broken in the corners (3 corners) This we think is a "stress related problem and we are going to make a warantee claim on it.

It has to be one of two things - a design fault (possibly assembly) or just the way it breaks if it gets hit by a stone. To me though it does look a bit suspicious...

 

I put mine down to stress initially, cos it had been parked facing the sun during all that heat we had earlier in the year, but then put it down to a stone chip when I found the mark on the wing. Its getting fixed on Friday, and although I should not really say this I am not too bothered as its going through the companies insurance.

Would love to hear what they say AJ.

 

Just bumped into a woman today who had a 1.8 EX with two smashed fogs, same thing. She's going to come on the site and post about her problems!

 

Do you think it is a design fault? Most fog lights are round and recessed. I've never heard of other fog lights shattering before?:?:

 

There's not a chance it's not a design fault. There's too many now with EXACTLY the same cracking.

 

I wonder if I can get my £166 back that it cost to replace mine:?: I guess it is too late as I don't have the old one. I won't make that mistake again, as there was no evidence that a stone caused it and they are not really in a position where they are easily bumped into.

 

mine were round and recessed on an old shape megane (51 plate) and that got smashed three times, I gave up replacing it after a while, still got through the MOT's though, obviously didn't use them though, and the stork didn't work, company car, couldn't be bothered

Tried to check if all the broken fog lights are on a certain model e.g. diesel but could not tell from the post's. Could it be that it is only affecting a particular model?

Ok, I noticed my drivers side fog light lense is cracked... I've also noticed that many other people on here have had the exact problem. I've done a search and found a bunch of different threads regarding this issue. I think if we all posted our issues into this one thread, we can use it to show Acura that the quality of the fog light lenses is an issue with many of their customers.

so, any luck, anyone, trying to claim it on warranty? mine is broken too . i did not get to see the crack pattern. i did not notice it myself in the first place, the dealer pointed it to me when the car was in for service; after it has been serviced; so all the glass debris were already removed by the garage. i suppose there is no way now to prove whether it was or was not a stone damage. and claiming it on warranty, that will only be possible if honda does recognise that there is a design flaw, or is it? the dealer has ordered a new lamp for me, and it's going to cost 2400 dkk all together (divide by ten to get the price in pounds). meanwhile i am driving with some clear plastic fixed with silver tape ... told him i will wait with replacing the light for now... kinda hurts to give away the money originally intended for winter tires, for a stupid piece of plastic - which will possibly break again some time soon?..

 

:?: I am in the process of dealing with honda uk on this, will keep you posted IF anything comes, but if we dont get compensation the car is going, I am not paying out for this on a regular bassis.
