Headlight Washers Stuck Out

Hi - I've only had my Civic for a few days so I'm wondering if this is a common problem or not.

Driving in to work today temp was -4 to -5 according to the gauge. Eventually the windscreen washers started working - presumably after the nozzles had thawed.

Anyway, when I arrived at work I noticed the headlight washers were still in the out position and when I tried to push them back in they appeared to be frozen.

Has anyone else had this?

Hi Wheelchair,

They have been working fine for the last few days so I'm guessing it is just the fact that I tried to use the washer a few times (while it was frozen) and then water slowly seeped out and froze.

I bought the car from Inchcape in Colchester but I live in Braintree so will probably use John Pease so long as there are no issues with the warante. They (John Pease) were a Honda dealership until recently but have now stopped - they told me servicing was no issue but I don't know what the situation is with Honda.

Thanks - I was concerned more because they were Honda but are now concentrating on Renault but I think it will be ok to use them - still, the tip re Inchcape is helpful as Springfield is the right side of Chelmsford for me.

Many thanks.

I'm pretty sure that the washer pops out under water pressure only (there are no wires going to it). So in this case, they have just frozen in the out position with the excess water turned to ice.

Once the nice balmy warm sunshine has done it's trick, the washers should just spring back in again (don't force them). Then go to Halfords and buy a load of antifreeze windscreen wash and tip the lot in (neat). Wash the lights a few times to get the concentrated mixture through the system and up to the headlight washers and all should be good. :)

Thanks Pottsy - My washers are full of whatever the dealer put in so I'm guessing there's water only.

This happened to me the other day. Used the windscreen washers to clear grit off the windscreen with the headlights on. When I got out of the car was shocked to see the headlight washers stuck in the up position & a frozen waterfall going from the headlights & down the front bumper. I simply put loads (& I mean LOADS) of washer fluid in the washer bottle & waited until the sun had been up a couple of hours the next day. Then, after a couple of squirts they returned to their down position. Needless to say I was extremely relieved!
