On this morning's (Thursday 10th July) BBC News website is an article referring to Alistair Darling who has unveiled changes to vehicles excise duty. These rates have been revised, I think I am right in saying. My 1.8 vtec ES i-shift is currently in band D (158g/km emissions) and I now pay ÂŁ145 VED. From 2009-10 the car will be reclassified into Band G attracting ÂŁ150, and ÂŁ155 from 2010-11, and thereafter :)rolleyes:)
The table displayed should contain a health warning to potential new CTR owners:( There is also a link to the Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA) where one can easily ascertain the emissions for most vehicles.
NB This website does change throughout the day.

Gordon brown is a complete arse and will be voted out. He was qouted the other day as saying high fuel prices will benefit drivers in the long run. These green issues are taking over everyday life and will make no impact when you have massive countries like china etc pumping out loads more co2 than a small island like us. I am sick to death of labour taxing us to bits. GET THEM OUT NOW!!!!

Labour are not interested in so called Climate Change, they just want tax revenue that makes no difference to CO2 levels. If they really wanted to cut CO2, they would give people grants to help them change their lives to become more efficient.

We have had Climate Change before anyway, what about the Ice Age, warmer before it and then after, its a natural process.

Fair comment, Angie. I posted my comments following new figures released by Angela Eagle, Exchequer Secretary, yesterday. I'm sure the disclosures will be in all the papers today.

Thats what ALL the scientific research that I've read states, that it is simply the planets homeostatic balance, the planet cools itself naturally anyways no matter how hot it gets the planets counteracts it, with volcanoes that release dust upwards shielding us from the heat of the sun, like tinting windows, it also relases gases and cools it's centre to take change into account (clever old thing the planet). So it's nothing to do with us, there is no Green house effect, its all just postulated crap (and any greenpeace twonk who says otherwise should read the scientific journals that show there is no scientific evidence for GW whatsoever). As said, the ice caps melted some time ago, and then we had something called the ice age, then we've had, in the grand scheme of things a few seconds of temperate weather, sure it'll get hotter, but not too extreme, and if it does, hah, by then we'll all be long gone (it'll take another 1000 years or so...... :) ).

Still, anyways, Gordon Brown, Font of all knowledge.....Fuel prices and the rise in the ocst of living is.........OUR FAULTS for wasting food........says the guy who then attended an 8 course banquet........hmmm wonder how little that fat pig wasted, seems to have got his snout everywhere else, why not in the proverbial trough.

Tom (phew rant over.....)

This all because there will be global carbon tax. Global Warming due to co2, now 4000 years ago co2 levels were 14times what they are now. The world mean tempreture hasnt risen since 1999. Al Gore charges $500,000 for one of his talks. He also in up to his neck in the carbon capture technoligy, & he publicly says i dont make money from this. In the 1970s all the talk was of global cooling. Climate change is real but due to sun spots, google this .

Think that it`s seen as politically ok to tax the perceived noxious emmisions of the motorised vehicle no matter what party are in power or how effiecent the internal combustion engine has become (i could go on ad infernitum on this subject )....roll on the crz hybrid ( just wished someone would develop a diesel hybrid -electric acceleration and diesel torque would make an unbeatable combo IMHO)

Nonumpty ...Way to cool for that ....Leave that to the novices and wannabees ....As regards whatsup man .....RE previous posts.... you can go on tv , you can go on a forum , you can go to the press , you can go go tell anyone who will listen ...Thats us right ..... Hot topic on every forum at the moment it would seem. This comment has been posted on a Type R forum and goes excatly like this

'The Labour Party have today changed their emblem from a rose to a condom as it more accurately reflects their political stance. A condom allows for inflation, halts production, destroys the next generation, protects a bunch of pricks, and gives a false sense of security while you are actually being f*****'

Whats the civic diesel tax going up to?

I don't get that different models of the same car with the same engine produce different C02???? Surely a 1.8 I-Vtec is the same whatever car it's in????

Tom

Pottsy,

I see, however surely the I-shift shouldn't make much difference to C02 output should it, as they claim to keep MPG etc. constant as it chooses the gear for you and doesn't use a heavy torque converter....... I see what you mean on the tyres etc. etc..... would you think the C02 given out by the Type S compared to the GT would differ with all the options like glass toof etc. adding excess weight?????

Road tax loophole saves you ÂŁ70

This may already have been posted.

Parker’s advises anyone with a band F car, who is renewing their road tax before mid-September, to tax their car for six months.
That means you’ll have to re-new your car tax by March 2009 – before next year’s higher charges come into force.
You'll be entitled to get 12 months tax for ÂŁ210, rather than the new rate of ÂŁ300 - and make a ÂŁ70 saving.

Suprised they call it a loophole, its just common sense! It would only be a loop hole if you could make this saving after the changes!!

People who don't expect us to be paying ÂŁ2,-- a litre fuel before the year is out, or some serious road tax on a performance car are living somewhere over the rainbow. I'm sorry, but how naive are you guys? This trend has been steadily developing since at least 2003.

But is CO2 the correct measure? Surely it should be based on dust to dust figures, that show hybrid cars are worse for the enviroment due to the nickel in the batteries.

The goverment needs money and it will get it one way or the other - it is just easier to label it as green tax - I am tempted to get on my mighty soap box on this one, but instead I am going to take a deep breath and have a cup of tea as it will not change ****.
