Type R Gearbox Issues

Hi all
I bought a Type R GT with 2,100 miles (approx) in June this year. 2.0l petrol, 65 plate, registered Jan 2016. Since then it's gone to the garage twice with gearbox issues. These issues have included: gear lever completely jamming between neutral & 5th, unable to select 5th, and changing in/out of 5th is very stiff. After 2 months the first visit resulted in replacing the 5th & 6th gear synchro hub assembly and bearings, and 6 weeks after its return it's back with the garage with 5th unavailable once more.
Has anyone had a similar experience or related problems?

I'd also be sending it back for a full refund as by consumer law it is definetly not fit for purpose and worrying slightly dangerous if it were to jam say on a motorway.

With brand new cars, FCA/FOS rules give you the power to reject the car for any defect (even something as trivial as the Connect system not working with your phone), without having to give them opportunity to repair. I'm not sure if this rule applies with used cars, but I'm 100% certain that within the first 6 months of ownership, any fault that isn't repaired the first time gives you the same right to reject the vehicle, to which Honda need to A. refund you in full or B. provide you with a like for like replacement.

If I were you mate, I would reject the car, as a serious gearbox issue isn't something any new vehicle should have and wouldn't instill much confidence on the build quality in general. It's your right in the end of the day, and you are paying a premium for the Civic Type R.

By the looks of things, he already has, with the issue manifesting again 6 weeks after the first time it was in the garage. The good enough grounds to reject the car, as the issue wasn't resolved the first time round.

FYI - I sometimes get issues selected 1st or 3rd. 1st is sometimes a problem when at the lights, requiring my to essentially double clutch before selection and a few times last week, a couldn't get select 3rd in a spirited launch, resulting in again, having to double clutch into 3rd. I mean, yeah ok, double clutching is what the pro's do, but sometimes, I like granny shifting...

Mine sometimes doesn't like going into first- usually just after coming to a slow stop at traffic lights. Requires dipping it into another gear before it lets me engage 1st. It's very infrequent though.

Just to update this post..

Took my car in on the 3rd January for the Gearbox to be removed, stripped and all parts assessed

On the 5th i received a phone call from the service manager, they had sent all relevant photo's across to HUK Technical and had received a response

HUK believe the issue to be the clutch dragging. So have instructed the dealership to replace the whole clutch assembly aswell as the 6th Gear Synchro

Unfortunately the Synchro is a Japan only stock item, so i have been told i will probably have to wait until the end of February before i get my car back!!

So thats potentially 8 weeks in a HRV
