I've been considering a performance remap for my MK9 Civic. It's currently 120hp with ~300nm. A REMAP would give it about 160hp with 360nm. I would really enjoy the performance gain, but i don't know that much about tuning. Does anybody have any experience with tuning? Does it affect reliability? Can it screw with your insurance? How is the gas mileage? Is it even worth it?

I appreciate all answers!

As above, bluespark box a cheaper option, can easily be removed, choose your own power level, and yes both usually do improve economy especially when cruising, if serviced regularly shouldn't be any engine problems, clutch is more a concern if you go ott with the torque output from a remap and if you're aggressive with standing starts.
Don't know what remap companies you have in Norway but bluespark box can be delivered worldwide wide, prob with some import duty though.
I've declared my sports exhaust to my insurance company but not my bluespark box as I can easily unplug that, some have and its usually no more than €50/60

i have a celtic re-map. the car is much nicer to drive with the additional torque. no issues with reliability - map added at 110k miles, now at 140k miles. Insurance - cost increased when i told them but it was only about ÂŁ20 additional. There is no way they could find out that its mapped but that's not the point - in order to be covered legally you have to tell them. Mileage (mpg) can be better if you drive carefully, but overall its about the same, but really depends on how you drive, but you certainly won't see a significant drop. worth it? - that's up to you but yes for me its worth the money, glad i did it.

lots of threads on this if you search (y)

What’s the point of a remap and not using it? MPG will always drop because of how you are driving it.

Like anything, it depends what you get.
There are tuning boxes out there with a few resistors and a fancy label, and there are proper mini-ecu control boxes so your results can vary.
Remaps can be done by experts or idiots.

Done to the same level, they’re both the same
Yeah i understand, thats a very good point. Do you have any experiences with commonly known tuning boxes like Bluespark or Racechip?
