Hello everybody,

Just dropping by to say that you guys are AWESOME! You just saved me the equivalent of 250 pounds that the local HONDA dealer asked for the replacement.

Everything went well, considering it was my first go at disassembling the dash of this car. Best advice is already given - small sharp pulls.

I managed somehow to remove the radio display without removing the speedo. And I don't recomment it because of the squeaking noises I had to endure during the process and the constant feeling that it is on the verge of breaking. Then I read the whole topic again and saw that that was the way to go.

The tricky part for me turned out to be the soldering. You really need to be carefull not to solder pins together. It is fixable, but annoying.

You can also check if everything is OK before you put all the plastics back together. I do recommend doing a short curcuit test beforehand.

Cheers

Civic FN3 LCD Clock / Radio Display Problems

Hi Guys,

regards the above problem which seems to have affected a lot of owners.

I followed the instructions on removing and re-soldering and saved myself around £400.

A big thank you to all who contributed. Especially the guy overseas with (just can't seem to find the thread anymore) with detailed instructions and pics - a big, big thank you.

Cheers.

I have a similar display problem, but not the same.
Sometimes all of the digits starts to blinking or just light up for a few second. Is this a wrong LCD display connection problem or the radio unit is failed?

Hi guys,

I have just had this problem start a few months now. Mine is a little different. It happens to me when I turn on the ignition and it is the whole display that is gone. It is also quite random. Some mornings I will have a full display, other mornings just black.

It has gotten worse so now I have no display any morning. I will try the soldering method next week as a bit busy atm.

Cheers!

Thank you very much for all these information.
Since past few days clock display of my FK1 started to show same problem,
but with all these useful hints, fixing it will be a breeze.
Thank you again,

A.

Still going

So my latest contribution to this thread is that I can 'fix' the display by squeezing up the front of the RADIO and pushing it in place. This causes some or all of the characters to be displayed.

Still dont have the time to investigate a permanent fox but it seems my problem is in the radio section.

I consider that it's wise to disconnect the battery whenever you are 'doing stuff' with electrics. Saves blowing fuses and subsequent fault finding to find the fuse that you have blown.
And that's one of the problems with making two posts asking the same thing. Two diametrically opposite replies.

Hi everyone.

I thought I’d bump this thread as I was something I wanted to check.

I’ve only had my ‘09 FN2 Type R a couple of years and I’ve had a problem with my head unit lcd since. I was going to replace it this summer as I’ll be using the car more. There was something I wanted to run past you before I do.

The light flickers on and off with vibrations. Sometimes it may stay on, other time bumps will cause it to flicker or knock it off completely for a short while. I always assumed it was the same issue described here. However for the first time this weekend natural light caught the LCD in such a way that I could see all the characters actually all the characters are fine, it’s actually just the backlight that’s flickering off and on.

Now if it makes a difference, ever since I’ve owned the car the rear illumination on the stereo that should come on when I turn my lights on doesn’t work. It maybe worked 2 or 3 times but rarely comes on. Im sure I read somewhere that the 2 can be related. However the rear illumination doesn’t flicker off and on like the LCD. I’m not bothered about fixing that to be honest as I only ever use my aux port.

Also I hit a bump with a bit of jolt a while back and the LCD actually behaved for a good couple of hundred miles.

So with this in mind, is this one of the symptoms of the poor soldering or does it need replacing?
Is it even a problem with the LCD or is it a wire that’s broken?
Is it actually tied in to the stereo illumination in any way?
Finally if I need a new one, does anyone happen to have the part number for the Red version that’s on the type r?

Edit - I’ve got the part number. If it helps anyone it’s HR0367001
