As there is a few guys on the site doing type r styling to their 5 door, decided to help out with a little how to.

in this thread i will tell you how to do all the kit

hope it helps:)

tools needed
flat head screwdriver
philips screw driver
10mm socket an ratchet
pliers
PATIENCE:)

APPROXIMATE TIME OF COMPLETION: 4-6 HOURS

so this is how it will look before you start

i decided to start from back to front

so lets begin

1. removing rear arches:

first remove star head screw from inner arch next to back door and one opposite
Image

Image

next remove 1 popper from underneath rear splitter the one that joins the arch to the splitter

then simply pull and the arch will come off dont be shy to be ruff to get it off

Do this for both sides

2. removing rear bumper:

first remove the 4 cap covers two each side
Image

this will unveil 1 10mm bolt under each cap
Image

undo these 4 bolts

next remove 8 poppers along the lower rear splitter
Image

next remove 1 starhead screw each side of the car that was underneath the arch
Image

now its a matter of giving the bumper a pull to get it off
**be careful if you have parking sensor this has to be diconnected**
if you have parking sensors simply disconnect
Image

this should leave you with this
Image

Image

3. adding type r splitter your bumper:

first lay down a sheet for the bumper to lie on as you dont want to scratch it

next remove 2 10mm bolts that holds i one single triangle do this for both
Image

next remove the poppers along the top of the splitter
Image

next simply prise the bumper from the splitter there are little clips all the way along easy enough to just prise apart

the do the reverse to fit new splitter
you should be left with this
Image

4. refitting rear bumper:

as stage 2 but in reverse

should be left with this
Image

5. refitting rear arches:

first of all you will need to get these clips as the type r aches are different
Image

take one clip and snip the top of the circle head till you can get smallest square possible

remove the 5th clip from the bottom and replace with new clip
Image

as you can see from the pic the difference between clips

then just repeat stage 1 but in reverse

should be left with this
Image

Image

6. removing front arches:

first remove 3 starhead screws from the arch closest to the door
Image

remove one popper just above they screws
Image

just above that popper is another screw and popper above the tyre

next follow the arch under the bumper and u will find a rubber fin behind that there will be 2 poppers and a screw
Image

then simply pull the arch off

repeat this process for the other side

7. replacing side skirts

you have already removed the front arches

firstly there is 3 poppers along the inside of the skirt next to the exhaust
Image

next remove the star head screw next to the rear arch
Image

now u are ready to remove

BE WARNED DO NOT PULL SKIRT FROM THE SIDE U WILL BREAK ALL CLIPS

go to the rear arch and pull the side skirt towards the back tyre it will come off but may need some pulling, you will be left with this
Image

to get the white clips out twist and pull the put them on new skirt

u can just push the new skirt on now repeat for other side

beware u will be left with a gap at the back door this is normal

you will be left with this
Image

Image

8. removing front bumper:

firstly remove all the poppers on the panel under the bonnet
Image

Image

next remove 2 starhead screws one each side that was under the arch
Image

next remove 4 poppers under the front splitter

now u should be able to completely remove the bumper by pulling and be left with this
Image

do the same process as stage 3

then simply do the reverse to refit

now refit the front arches

JOB COMPLETE:D:D:D:D:D

you will be left with this :cool::cool:

This is great mate. Would've been better had you not got that car behind the civic in these pictures :worms:

Haha, just kidding. Great post mate, you've no idea how much this'll help me

Lots of love x

Hi Gee,

Do the side skirts fit straight off on the five door or do you need to modify or buy ones already to size.

Cheers

you buy type r ones then would need to modify it to lose the gap, the gap never bothered me as u cant see it when the door is closed ask tony(saint2k) he would probs get you some pics of the gap

fantastic how to,very well done and informative

its made me want to do this to my car now as it looks so easy, ive had the back bumper off before for parking sensors

what's the gap like at the back doors?;)
as above mate its about 1.5 inches for about 4 inches along the skirt

Similar questions coming out here, including mine: can you keep the original arches with the new bumper and skirts, that's what I kinda got from this?
no mate u need 4 type arches, 2 type r side skirts, front and back type r splitters

hope this helps

Brilliant write up many thanks. Just started compiling parts but will take a while.
As requested please can someone post some pics of the gap.
Also will there be any gap around the arches on the rest where the for meets the rear wing please.

Dave

Lads I went to these people and they sold me some rubber strips that are kind of a double U shape. It slots on the side skirt and arches the gap to the sill of the car.

I used a sharp Stanley knife to trim it to my desired shape.

You could if you wanted get them to measure and make the exact shape of rubber strip you want/need. I'm sure if you did you'd have plenty of people willing to buy a set. Hell I'm already in for a set...!!!
