YOKO Oh No Snow !!!!

 

Mine are fine, just had a tyre change so now even better ... Yoko Advan Sport didnt much like but have now got Falken FK452 all round which I love

 

YOU have new tyre EUPHORIA falkens aint as good as yoko's

 

Is it only me who is getting mad how i cant drive anywhere

it just keep wheel spinning when it touches a bit of snow

these rages are driving me crazy

not sure if you have seen my post on the vsa thread but i have had a nightmare with the snow and my rages...

 

I still can't move my car off our road and you wouldn't exactly say it was a hill. It's just a very gentle slope all the way up.

I can get absolutely no traction whatsoever.

Tonight I am resorting to an attempt to dig my way out. I am going to shovel all the ice from the entire road.

Just in time for tonights predicted snowfall...

i thinks its to do with the psi being so high and the 35 profile and the tyre rubber put that equation together =very slippery

 

I drove my car today for the first time since last Tuesday because of the snow, hardly been able to drive anywhere since before Christmas I think it costs about £800 odd for snow tyres!! I just got the bus to work the past week instead...

 

Can be found for half of that - although right now, the UK seems to be running short of winter tyres (as well as road grit \ salt and gas supplies) ...

Global warming, huh ? - buy winter tyres (on a second set of wheels) a.s.a.p. - you're going to need them for a good few winters to come ! ...

Sorry but couldn't help it. Having spent an hour digging strategic acceleration areas on the road I got the car out and on to the main road

Of course, I am sure we will have snow and a deep freeze tonight and tomorrow it will be a different story

I also changed my tact slightly and reversed onto the driveway. This meant I had initial momentum to carry on going forwards having come off the drive rather than reversing of the drive and a standing start on solid ice.

Sorry to see your accident mate - hope it doesn't cost too much to repair. I know it doesn't help but at least it was a low speed accident and you were not hurt.

 

Well quess what, i have now crashed because of these alloys

just got up, got in car to go to gym

started going down a kill on this road not fast and there was a bend and the wheels just didnt want to turn

so i quickly saw an entrace to a little hospital so i tried to go into that but then car started sliding and i scraped the car to the side of the pole

Its not just the rages its all civics drop the pressures in the front to 20-25 turn off the vsa and off you go. My tires are worn aswell but getting all the tire on the road with the lower pressure

Rages are the worst, they are the biggest and widest wheel making traction in the snow a nightmare. Being low profile you really need to watch what your doing and dropping the pressure so low is only good whilst still on the snow and not for cleared roads.

You tend to find that small cars with small skinny wheels are best in the snow. The less rubber to try and get down the better - however you seem to think the opposite!

 

They are terrible!! been stuck at work many times and getting stick of hearing people say its because I cant drive. FN2 is now in garage and has been for few days, driving a corsa and not been stuck once

Ouch! That looks bad. I had issues with the rages in December 2008 when the snow struck and it was scary to try and drive anywhere. took 2 hours to do a journey that usually took 15 mins

I was going down the street which has a little bend and the moment bend started the car started to slide. Now all the way down the street on the left hand side there is a big massive row of cars.

Before the row of cars there is a doctors which had barrier up. So the moment car started to slide i thought head towards the doctors and go in the car park

but because the road was at a slope i managed to get to car park but car was sliding still which i hit the pole that holds down the barrier when its down

so could have been worst, could have just slid into a row of cars instead

It's the combination of the low profile, width, psi and tyre compound. With the Rages, you can't do anything about the first two. psi can't be dropped too low as it might start to damage the tyre. So, you don't have many options with the Rages other than trying a different tyre. The other alternative is to have a set of winter wheels.

It's been carnage here today due to Black ice everywhere.

I daren't drive my Type-R anywhere at the moment. Just hope my other car holds out until the weather has gone. It's starting to fall apart...

No, not really.

The problem is nothing to do with rages. At all.

The problem is using summer tyres. All summer tyres fail to work in the cold and snow, but really fancy summer tyres designed for maximum grip in the summer (like yours and like most tyres made to fit rims like yours) fail even more dramatically.

The small skinny summer tyres on a regular car are marginally better, because they are not high performance summer tyres and have a different compound.

If you put winter tyres on cheap wheels for the 3 months of winter (or any time when the temperature is below 7C), you'd have the fastest safest CTR in existence. The cost is negligible (cheap wheels that you can re-sell if you want, and as you wear the winter tyres you save the summer tyres) and is certainly cheaper than a bump.

i got stuck in my parking slot outside my house on monday. had to digg out the slushy snow to get moving.

with the fresh snow and vsa off i had no problems getting out. just be gentle with the throttle.

i have a open large car park opposite my work place, and after 6pm i go hand brake drifting in the snow. its really good to test emergency braking and to too feel how your car would handle on the snow. i will try to take a video if i get chance today.
