Over recent weeks I have found the Auto Stop/Start has not been kicking in.

Battery is fine, and have tried switching 'off' Air Con etc but still will not work!.

Visited Dealer yesterday for check (under Warranty), no problems with Battery/General Electrics etc - Was told Honda are aware of this problem and are working on it!!

Has anyone else got/had this problem and what views/ info do they have?

PERHAPS 'DAN' knows a bit more about this problem??

The idle stop is a bit of a pointless gimmick anyway unless you stop frequently for long periods of time. Cutting the engine in stop/start traffic or at traffic lights doesn't really save you any fuel, as the fuel you didn't burn from not idling would be used up starting the engine again.

Although my idle stop does work, it is a bit fussy as to when it does. As you mentioned, it doesn't like the air con, but I noticed mine also takes offence at my MP3 player.

I do agree the idle stop when in general car use, is a pointless gimmick.

My concern was that maybe there were other car Electronic problems brewing, but all was well apart from this issue.

Interesting, your comment regarding the MP3 player, I always have my iPod connected and switch it on when in the car - will check if this has any effect.

There are a few other threads discussing that already ... looks like it is only affecting the petrol engines (I have the same issue with my 2.0 CR-V).

If you don't drive the car for a couple of days, the car fails to notice when the battery is fully recharged and will never kick in.

Something funny, I was at my dealer last Thursday to put to snow tyres on and had them check the auto/stop issue (as well as some other electronic alerts) and while I was going through the manual, I noticed that this issue is actually described in the CR-V manual ... and the solution is to disconnect/reconnect the battery

I hope that Honda will come with a better solution

mine keeps doing it, ther "reset" it and 2 days later there it goes again. Its even more amazing when it says it cant do it yet has clearly done it as the revs are at zero. Auto wipers and lights also get affected...sounds like a massive software glitch. Im fed up of keep going back to the dealer though

Just turn it off and ignore it then. It's just a pointless gimmick to get the car under an emissions level for cheaper taxing. You don't have to actually use it ever, in most situations it doesn't save you anything anyway, and in situations where it would... just turn the engine off yourself!

I doubt there's a problem. When the weather is colder it takes longer for your engine to warm up and cabin too. Having the heater off (by pressing the "OFF" button) completely will mean you will idle stop sooner, but probably you'll get misted windows. This is the reason the idle stop doesn't activate, to allow your engine to warm up and operate efficiently , but also to hear the cabin and clear the glass. If you turn on the text in the menu it will tell you why it is not stopping each time. I imagine it will either show a thermometer symbol for cold engine or 'A/C' for anything heater related. I hope this helps to clarify

I think there was a problem on some of the early cars. But a car in the error state could be reset by disconnecting the battery, and since it is well publicised I imagine everyone here has already tried these steps or had their sensors replaced. When this fault occurred the battery symbol would appear so it is quite obvious and unrelated to any of the other warning messages

I've just got my Civic 9th gen and been playing around with it and I can't seem to get the stop /start to activate.
If I pull up put it in neutral and apply the hand break all that happens is a symbol "A" with a line through it and a picture off a battery.
Is there something wrong or am I doing something wrong?

That means the battery is not fully charged, so the system won't activate... Their are several warnings like that for various reasons for why the auto stop won't activate.. Such as ac on full.

A reason this is happening to you maybe that you've only been doing short trips. Give the car a nice run and all should be ok

Thanks Bog,
I did wonder as the car has just been sat on the dealers forecourt and I have only been doing very short trips.
Reading through a few threads it seems very few people bother with it anyway.
I have just been trying all the gadgets and options that the ES has over my old gen 8 SI:)
Probably many more questions to follow;)

The problems are long trips because the battery become fully charged. So, leaving the car stopped for 2-3 days, the battery discharge a little but it's too much for the battery sensor or the software. If I disconnect the battery negative for 4-5 minutes the problem disappear. In November the dealer replaced the battery and until I made a long trip the problem was not showing. Just an info, the 1.8 battery is 45Ah or 60?

Well, I can't tell you much, since I don't own a Civic (yet).
The Problem seems to be, that the battery sensor doen't recognize the batterys charging vlevel, once it has dropped under a certain value and prevents auto start/stop from working even if the battery is fully recharged.
A workaround is to disconnect the negative battery cable for a short time. If the sensor is the reason for the problem, it should start working again for certain time, but will fail again after a couple of months.
The only permanent solution seems to be a new sensor.
I'm not sure if Honda Germany is actually replacing them or if this was just a rumour.
