I run the diesel and intially it did use a bit of oil, but once it got over a couple of thousand miles it's been fine. I check mine weekly as I do 400 odd miles per week and probably add 1/2 litre every 6-8 weeks. Car now has 2.5K miles on it.

I think you would be very unlucky to have a car that actually did use 1 litre every 625 miles.

What you do need to do is check the oil regiulary, it takes seconds to do.

 

My diesel used about a litre in the first few 1000 miles, then pretty much none thereafter. Usually, once everything has bedded in, the oil consumption will be negligible - topping up between services being unnecessary. A few unlucky people have had some oil use problems, but I think almost all went away as the miles built up?

 

About half a litre every 12,500 miles here... So nothing to worry about.

 

Used no more than half a litre in first 8000 miles, so far.

 

Done 6000 miles in mine (it had 9000 miles on it when I got it). I've not added any oil yet.

The original tyres, M PS2, don't lose pressure either but the Cont sport contac 2s on the front lose about 1 psi per month.

You'll be fine once everythings bedded in!

 

I ran mine in using the running in guide and only had to top my oil up once before the first service (I put in a litre at about 10,000 miles as it had hit the minimum mark)

But I still always check every time I fill up (I get about 450-550 miles per tank) just to make sure I don't have any warranty issues

 

TBH I never even check the oil, I only do around 6500 - 7000 miles a year. Not had a problem yet.

my diesel has used 1/2 a litre in nearly a year. and that was in the first 2 months. it hasnt moved on the dipstick for 8000 miles.

ive got i nice full can of £40 oil in my shed tho!

 

Ditto with the oil in the shed, only did my 8000 miles in three months

 

As long as you brew up too!

On oil, mine has used just over a litre in 35000 miles. I have only had the low oil warning symbol when really thrashing it (once towing up the A24 at speed and once in Europe). Neither time was the oil level down to the min line.

My Civ had just over 7000 miles on it when I got it, so I can't comment on early consumption (or the way the car was run in for that matter).

 

This is such a good read. Cant wait to take delivery of the car. From all the advice about the 2.2 diesel engine i have already got a litre of oil in the garage waiting lol

We were shocked as we have never had to top-up on our clio's or freelander so quickly. Phoned honda and they said this seemed normal for the running in period but if we wanted them to check the car they would.

As long as it only happens once then I see no problem. It could be the fact that when it was filled at the factory, it was only just above the low oil level so even a tiny amount of oil consumption would just drop it low enough.

 

My 2.2 is at 12K and seems to be using 1litre per 900mls. Its not getting any better. Flipping expensive adding Mobil 1 0-40 all the time. This is the Oil the Honda garage uses so i dont want to mix and match albeit i gather any fully synthetic 0-40w will do the job. The manual is as clear as mud on which oil to use so just went with the garage recommendation.

I knew some folks reported the oil use was higher than norm prior to purchasing my Type S but I have never had a car (last two were Pug diesels) that used much if any between services. Why is the Honda engine so gutsy.

A mechanic at Honda told me that low speed short runs will tend to use more oil than long motorway type usage. My use is the former. Can anyone in the know tell me if this is true or if its ********.

 

Majority of my mileage are journeys of approx 6 miles (2.2 Type S).The car's used 2 litres in 9k miles.If you'rs is using 1 litre/900 miles something surely must be very wrong?

 

When I bought mine the salesman said it can be as high as 1 litre every 500 miles!!!!

Luckily (and probably because I ran it in corectly!) mine only consumes about 1/2 litre between services (and so doesn't need topping up!)
