What is the merit of a Pro over a standard DAS6?

Evening all.

Having a tentative look at DA machines, the generally popular choice seems to be with either DAS-6 or the Pro version, but I can't tell what the difference is. Most retail sites are very vague as to the difference in spec, so I can't tell where the extra £40ish is going.

If there is a difference, will it be of any relevance to me as a novice, or can I stick with the cheaper option? And one final question, is there any decent (...ly priced!) alternative to the DAS6 range?

Thanks all!

Ah right, I was looking at the CYC site and couldn't really get much from that except that it had a more powerful motor. Wasn't sure if that was just a gimmick that wouldn't make much difference to a beginner!

I'll have a look at the group buy now, thanks muchly!

If you pm dean he will tailor a package to suit your needs. My personal opinion is that you'll want hex logic pads, white and black instead of megs ones he's quoted, 205 polish is perfect but 105 is a bit aggressive so replace that with something like scroll s17 if you need to step up

Perfect, many thanks again!

Really I'm primarily getting the DA to polish scratches out of the windscreen (using Ceriglass, not these suggestions!), but the paintwork does need attention anyway and I've been after one for a while.

Im pretty sure the glass is already too far gone, but I need to have a go at it before giving up and getting it replaced.

Another member on here has reported good results recently using a DA and Ceriglass. There's no harm in trying (I hope) and a rotary would probably be useless to me afterwards, not having any experience of machine polishing to begin with.

By the way, where do you guys go for all your car detailing stuff? There doesn't seem to be many sites that stock every brand regularly mentioned on here, CYC comes close but I'm finding they've got very little actually in stock at the moment.

I should rely on PB more, their business is located only about 15 miles from me, but it seems like expensive stuff that they stock. Whenever Ive gone in Ive never really been encouraged to wander and have a browse, as theyre set up more as a warehouse than a shop, although they can sell on site.

Cheers for the suggestions guys.

They are a bit more expensive but you do have the top quality guarantee !?

Hi again, apologies for making a thread wander slightly off topic but I've been pricing up some things on the web and wanted to get a quick thumbs down/up on any products or product combinations before placing an order. So, I've gone for:

A standard DAS6
Scholl S17 and S40
CG Hexlogic black and white 5" pads
3m masking tape
Ceri-glass + a rayon pad (for the windscreen scratching)

And general supplies which needed topping up:

IPA
TRIX combined iron and tar remover (1l is the same price as 1l of IronX and the ObliTARate I've got isn't very effective.
303 protectant
A CG Wooly Mammoth (want one, the thing I've got struggles to dry one panel)
Trim Dye
And AF powerseal

The last one I'm not sure about, would this be recommendable following DAing the car, or is there a better option? I've got PB Black Hole Glaze, EX-P, Nattys Blue liquid wax, plus Dodo Juice Purple Haze and another one I can't remember. I presume most of this would be redundant with the paint being free from marring? The claims that powerseal makes sound impressive, but is there a more suitable product?

I would buy ironx and autosmart tardis instead of trix as trix from my experience is not as efficient

I had IronX and ran out, but still have the 500ml spray bottle. I was looking at the refill packs on CYC, £16 for 1l of Iron X or a pound more for 1l of TRIX.

Not that impressed with ObliTARate so thought I'd try the TRIX for simplicity at that stage of the detail. Obli... does work, just seems to take a bit of effort to get the spots off which means some occasionally get missed on a black car.

However if its not worth buying then I will stick with IronX and Obli... for now. Saving the pennies for a suspension upgrade ;)

That'll do for me!

What do you reckon to the post polishing routine though, is this powerseal stuff alright or is there a tried and trusted product combination?

#37 ·
So alright to go straight from polishing to a sealant then, wax required on top or not really necessary?

So many novice questions, I'm such an engineer! Can do anything in ordered steps or sequences, but when it comes to arty 'just try a bit of this or a touch of that, whatever you feel is right...' stuff, I'm hopelessly lost. Cooking is a similar disaster, unless straight from a cookbook (or microwave!)

Thanks for the patience!

Awesome, cheers very much!

Looking forward to getting home and cracking on with all this now, don't want to be stuck out here for another 10 days! Doubtless it'll be torrential rain once I do get home...

:D Wee-Nemo dude, off-shore worker, buyer of cars from dodgy dealers and esteemed member of my friends list !

You've been a busy boy, am struggling to keep up with your posts !

I know sweet FA about detailing, not exactly true, but close.

What I can say, having met both Shaun & Wayne on several occasions, and had the pleasure of both of them work on my beloved Civic, is that they both really know their stuff, and to boot, are really decent guys.

Shaun's used my car as a guinea pig on a new product, R1NE, which is excellent, and Wayne's done a full professional detail, over 2 days, with superb results

I can't praise the pair of them enough, they really know their stuff !

One thing that I can recommend is:

Auto Finesse Revive Plastic and Rubber Trim Drssing Gel 250ml | eBay

Is great stuff ! Brings to life any black trim, plastic or rubber, inside or out ! Just rub in and leave, no polishing off ! :D

Glowing praise for the two main contributors to this (and pretty much every) cleaning thread, and indeed very well deserved praise!

Looking at it with a subjective eye, if I hadn't bought such a poor example of a Civic then I probably wouldn't have needed to join this forum to learn how to rectify all my woes!

I have some VERY quiet days out here, once all the weeks work is done and my equipment is ticking along nicely, so figure this is the best time to ask questions and prepare for the next time I get home. Right now the Internet is on a go slow so youtubing videos of idiots and scoping out holidays is out, Civinfo works fine though.

Planning to polish out the scratches on my windscreen, but if that needs a machine polisher then why not go further and do the car as well?!!

I've tried AF revive, had it quite a while now, but haven't been too happy with it. Might be that my bumpers are too far gone for this stuff, so that's why I'm going to have a go with plastic dye. The results elsewhere on this forum are impressive.

Thanks again as always, P.S. just seen your last post on that dealers thread, I agree and have certainly learned my mistakes the hard way. That said, the car was cheap!
